Iota mu Chapter at Duke University

Service to All Mankind

The Iota Mu Chapter participates in various community service projects that aim to uplift the Duke and Durham community as a whole and the individuals within them. Recent projects include voter registration drives with Duke Votes, sandwich making through Urban Ministries of Durham meal service program, and planting trees with Keep Durham Beautiful. We have collected school supplies and backpacks for the Iglesia Emanuel Learning Center, women's hygiene products for the Period Project NC, and continue to make hundreds of weekend and holiday meals for children through the Childhood Initiative Power Pack (CHIPP) program. We are truly dedicated to our partnerships with Durham Urban Ministries, Families Moving Forward, the Emily K Center, and more!

Over the past five years, the Iota Mu has earned a series of awards at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Conferences: the 2021 Undergraduate Achievement award, the 2023 Outstanding Undergraduate Chapter award, and the Outstanding Undergraduate Chapter Program award for 2021, 2023, and 2024. The Chapter also received the 2023- 2024 Duke Fraternity and Sorority Life Student Organization Program of the Year award for Skee Week Spring 2024: The Ivy Book.

Over the years, the Iota Mu Chapter has developed unique service projects and programming events within the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.® national framework specifically geared for the Duke University and Durham communities. Throughout the school year, Iota Mu hosts a variety of programs such as time management workshops, financial literacy and wealth management seminars, dance and workout sessions, and panel discussions on a wide range of topics.
