As you may know, the coronavirus (COVID-19) has caused great concerns across the country. As of March 10, 2020, Duke University has announced their plans in regards to the virus. Included in the e-mail sent out yesterday by President Vincent Price, it states that, "Effective immediately, we are postponing, cancelling or virtualizing any Duke-sponsored in-person event with expected attendance of more than 50 people taking place on-campus or off-campus between now and April 20.  This includes recruitment events, tours, student programs, reunions, performances, conferences and social events." Before releasing this news, which came at a very confusing time, we waited for more information as to what could be done for events that had been planned. Sadly, the Duke Alumni page also announced that Duke Reunions Weekend 2020 has been postponed. It is with a very saddened heart that we, too, must follow Duke policy and safety guidelines and cancel our 45th Anniversary Weekend that was scheduled to take place April 17-19, 2020.

We share in your disappointment, sorrow, and concern. Since Duke has prohibited students from returning to campus, we are unable to confirm any 45th anniversary celebrations in the near future. We would have loved nothing more than to welcome members of the chapter back to campus in order to celebrate Iota Mu and all that the chapter has accomplished in the past 45 years. We are immensely grateful for the love that has been poured into this chapter for decades. Thank you to everyone who RSVP’d, reached out, and showed support. We know this weekend would have been a spectacular affair full of love and celebration.

Now, we implore you to prioritize your safety and ask that you please take any necessary precautions to stay safe and remain healthy in this unpredictable season. Please consider your flights, hotel accommodations, and any other arrangements you had made for the weekend. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have but we hope that everyone remains safe amidst this viral outbreak.

If you have any comments, questions, or concerns, as always, feel free to contact us via e-mail. We have included links to the primary sites for information regarding Duke’s response and Duke Alumni’s plan of action.
